East Cleveland layoffs | Police, fire, staffers

EAST CLEVELAND -- Mayor Gary Norton told reporters today that the city is laying off 12 staff members, including two police officers, a fire department captain and the mayor's executive assistant.

Norton added that other full-time employees' hours will be dropped to part-time.

Twenty-six jobs were affected.

The laid-off employees included two Parks and Recreation Department workers, three Building and Housing Department workers, a custodian, a food service aide from the Helen S. Brown Senior Center, one worker in the Community Development Department, Norton's executive assistant, 2 East Cleveland police officers and an East Cleveland Fire Department captain.
