The Chagrin Valley Chamber of Commerce, which represents 13 communities within the Chagrin Valley, is coordinating the efforts and unifying businesses and the community in a salute to first responders.
In the most easily accessible way, residents in the Chagrin Valley have been asked to change their light bulbs to red or blue.
Kredo Hardware in Pepper Pike and Chagrin Hardware in Chagrin Falls have stocked their stores with the red and blue bulbs. Chagrin Hardware has sold well over 500 bulbs, the Chamber reports.
People have been buying them for their communities and passing them out to all their neighbors.
Wednesday at 6 p.m., one such effort was underway.
The group walked the streets of Chagrin Lakes in South Russell and handed out bulbs bought by a Chamber member and a coworker that live in Chagrin Lakes.
The salute extends beyond the light bulb initiative.
Forty local restaurants will drop off either a breakfast, lunch or dinner to their communities' police and fire stations.
Banners will be “traveling” around communities for residents to sign.
Orange, Kenston and Chagrin Falls third and fifth grade students made 1,000 labels, for solo cups. The cups will be delivered to area police and fire departments, "so that they are reminded how special they are every time they pick up a cup," the Chamber's Executive Director Molly Gebler wrote.
