The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association's premiere event for raising funds to save lives from this country's No. 1 and No. 5 killers - heart disease and stroke. Designed to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living, the Heart Walk creates an environment that's fun and rewarding for the entire family. WKYC is proud to partner with the Cleveland chapter of the American Heart Association in this year's Cleveland Heart Walk.
Channel 3 News Today meteorologist Hollie Giangreco is leading the charge for WKYC and is inviting our viewers to join her team in making a difference in the fight against heart disease. Hollie is passionate about being healthy and even more passionate about our communities' health.
About her involvement in this year's Heart Walk, Hollie says, "Imagine the impact if we reduce death and disability from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent by 2020! My team is participating in the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk to promote physical activity to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Please join my team. Help me reach this lifesaving goal by forming a team and raising funds. Together, we can make healthier, longer lives possible for everyone. Why? … Life, life is why."
The Heart Walk is a free event and takes place on Saturday October 8 at 10am on Mall C in Downtown Cleveland. For more information on the Heart Walk itself, click here.
And after the walk, be sure to stop in to the Huntington Bank Convention Center where WKYC will be hosting our third annual Health and Wellness Expo. Free and open to the public, this event gives you a chance to take advantage of free health tests and screenings such as cholesterol checks, dental assessments, hearing tests and flu and pneumonia shots among many others. It's also free fun for the entire family as the kids can play in booths hosted by the Cleveland Monsters and Gladiators, climb a rock wall, play soccer with Cleveland Crunch legend Otto Orf and everyone can take a spin in The Voice chair. The Health Expo will be open from 10am to 4pm.
So come on out and join Hollie in doing good for others in the Heart Walk and then take care of yourself and you family at the Health Expo!
