Mentor warrant delivery turns into hostage standoff

Man in custody after Mentor standoff

U.S. Marshals attempted to serve a felony warrant to a man in Mentor on Thursday and became embroiled in a seven-hour hostage standoff.

Marshals showed up at a home on Connie Drive in Mentor around 1 p.m. The suspect, a 32 year-old male, began showing signs of depression; He threatened to harm himself and the police. 

The male was the caregiver of a 5 month-old baby at the time.

The City of Mentor SWAT team, with the assistance of the Lake County SWAT team, and the Mentor Hostage Negotiation team were called in to aid the situation. 

Around 8 p.m., the suspect surrendered to officials, and was turned over to the Eastlake Police Department.

The infant was unharmed and released into the custody of a relative.  

The investigation is ongoing, more information will be provided as it becomes available.
