PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, OHIO - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a serious injury crash that occurred on about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday on State Route 58 near Merriam Road in Pittsfield Township in Lorain County.
According to a news release, a silver 2016 Ford F350 was stopped southbound on State Route 58 for traffic waiting to turn left into a private driveway. A green 1998 Buick Century was traveling southbound on State Route 58 and rear ended the stopped Ford F350.
Both vehicles remained in the roadway after the collision.
The driver of the Buick Century was wearing a safety belt and received serious injuries in the crash. He was taken to Mercy Allen Hospital and later flown to Metrohealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
He is currently listed in serious condition, according to troopers. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the Ford F350 was identified as Kevin P. Schemp, age 59, of Medina. He was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash and was not injured.
There were no other vehicle occupants. The crash is still under investigation. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
