Baby's remains lost at hospital: Family pays tribute

Baby's remains lost at hospital, family pays tribute

LORAIN, Ohio – Exactly one month after giving birth to a stillborn baby girl whose remains were lost at the hospital, the child's mother, father and several other family members are honoring Joh'nae's memory.

They released balloons at Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain Tuesday evening.

Channel 3 News broke the story last month after Shadaria Whitfield and Antron Robinson say the funeral director was given the runaround and they were later told their child's remains were disposed of.

Joh'nae's family says her remains have still not been found.

Then, a representative with Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain released the following statement apologizing for the incident and saying there would be changes to procedures:

Mercy extends its sincerest condolences to the family. We are deeply sorry for the additional distress arising from this incident. Mercy deeply regrets the occurrence of this event and is working to remedy the situation. With profound empathy for the family's feelings, we are continuing to investigate all aspects of this matter. Though it does not alleviate the pain of this incident, we have implemented revised processes to prevent a recurrence.
