2 schools closed as power outage strikes portion of Avon Lake

April 12, 2017: A crash caused a power outage in a portion of Avon Lake early this morning.

AVON LAKE, Ohio -- Nearly 17 percent of Avon Lake's FirstEnergy customers woke up without electricity early Wednesday morning.

FirstEnergy reported 1,763 outages in Avon Lake as of 7:15 a.m. Power was restored to most customers before 8 a.m.

Learwood Middle School and Eastview Elementary in Avon Lake's district were closed (April 12) due to the outage.

Authorities say the outage was caused when a car crashed into a pole on Lear Road near Walker Road.
