MACEDONIA -- Police say that the standoff that began several hours ago has ended peacefully.
It started just before noon Wednesday on Shepard Road. Police say that an eviction notice was being served on David Smith and he refused to open the door and told them he had a gun.
Police had blocked off Shepard Road between Highland and Route 82 since noon but reopened it about 7 p.m.
About 5:30 p.m., Metro SWAT and the Summit County Sheriff's Office SWAT entered Smith's Shepard Road home and arrested him.
Members of the SWAT hostage negotiating team had been in contact with Smith, who was armed with a handgun.
No shots were fired and no one was injured.
Smith was taken to an Akron Hospital in the custody of deputies.
Shepard Road was reopened about 7 p.m.
