CLEVELAND -- Despite concerns about funding and possible layoffs, Channel 3 has learned that 20 administration employees received recent pay increases.
According to district documents, the employees received pay raises ranging from two percent to nearly 60 percent. From December to March, 20 employees received pay raises and two had paycuts.
For instance, one manager and one supervisor received 20 percent pay increases.
The interim deputy chief in human resources received a 17 percent increase from $100,785 to $117,303. Her title went from executive director to interim deputy chief in March.
The biggest increase was in payroll. One employee went from supervisor to director. The salary changed from $58,349 to $93,282.
"It's disappointing and frustrating," says David Quolke, CTU President.
Most of the employees' titles did change, and were likely promotions.
"These are not pay raises, we were filling openings with more responsibility," says District Spokesman John Hairston.
He says the employees wouldn't accept jobs with more responsibility without getting a pay increase. In this economy, critics questioned the amount of those increases.
