TWINSBURG -- On Monday, Twinsburg police arrested Ricky L. Melton, 55, of Stow, and Michael H. Rusu, 54, of Akron, in connection with the Sept. 15 theft of a trailer from Twinsburg and the subsequent fatal hit-skip accident that occured that same day.
Police accuse, Melton and Rusu of taking the trailer from a Dutton Drive business.
According to police, while they were traveling eastbound on Interstate 480 in Twinsburg, just east of state Route 91, the trailer became unhitched from their vehicle.
The trailer struck a car, which was also traveling eastbound, before crossing the median, ending up in the westbound lanes.
Michael K. Hull, 48, of Ravenna, was driving his 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound and struck the trailer.
Hull was ejected off the motorcycle and landed in the westbound lanes, where two other vehicles struck him. He died as a result of his injuries.
Police say Melton and Rusu continued traveling eastbound on I-480 without stopping.
