KENT -- Thanks to a tip from a student and surveillance cameras, Kent State University Police made four arrests in connection with a robbery that occurred in the early morning hours Sunday near the Commons area of campus.
Police said three of the four suspects arrested are KSU students.
The suspects were arrested Monday evening into Tuesday morning and were identified as KSU students Jose Lino, 18, of Akron; Daejshon Norton, 18, Erie, Pa.; and Mykel Benson, 18, of Cleveland.
Police say the fourth suspect is a juvenile who is not a Kent State student and his name is not being released.
Two students reported being robbed and assaulted in the Commons area north of the Art Building early Sunday morning, while two other students reported being robbed at gunpoint Saturday morning in a parking lot adjacent to campus.
"The men arrested in this incident are not representative of our student body," said Kent State President Lester A. Lefton, in a release.
"Kent State students are law-abiding, hard working and great representatives of the many communities from which they hail...The success of the arrests was a joint effort between our police department and our students, who stepped up to provide tips, including the one that ultimately led to these arrests."
The KSU police department will continue to have an increased presence around campus to ensure everyone's safety, Lefton added.
He said the "safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors is our first priority, and Kent State University is ranked among the safest campuses in Ohio based on FBI Uniform Crime Statistics Report and Consortium for Higher Education Campus Crime Research."
