Manziel ice cream 'How Ya Doin' Johnny' flyin' off shelves

The Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback has yet to throw a pass in a game for the Browns but he already has his own ice cream flavor.

And that ice cream is flying off the shelves. They can't make it fast enough.

Nick Pappas, of Pav's Creamery in Akron, was challenged to make the flavor and he used some Cleveland bourbon and created "How Ya Doin' Johnny."

For the uninitiated, that's a catch phrase used on WKNR radio's Really Big Show sports talk program.

But back to the ice cream. What does it taste like?

It's a vanilla-based flavor, with some orange zest and the aforesaid bourbon. And, for now, you can only get it at Acme Fresh Markets for $3.99 a pint.

So, how about an ice cream flavor for a returning sports figure -- LeBron James? Apparently they are already thinking about a lemon-blueberry jam flavor. Any more suggestions?

OK, so that doesn't really appeal to me but I would take a taste of the Manziel flavor.

Leave to someone in the Akron area to come up with this. Some of my fondest memories are Akron-based with someone who remains special to me even today. I would even treat him to ice cream if he still lived in northeast Ohio.

The "How Ya Doin' Johnny?" ice cream joins the Johnny Footlong —an 8-ounce Five Star hot dog topped with Texas Jack chili, shredded pepper jack cheese and Sriracha sauce — at Canal Park, home of the Akron RubberDucks in Akron.

Two Akron-area Wally Waffle restaurants have come out with :Johnny Cleveland Waffle," a Belgian waffle with chocolate chips and toppings including a buttercream frosting infused with champagne. The bubbly is a reference to the large bottle of champagne from which Manziel was drinking in a snapshot that went viral this spring.

If you come to northeast Ohio, I will treat you to both a Johnny Footlong and the waffles.

Now, I'm not saying I'm sold on the whole Manziel phenomenon. I don't care for his money "gesture" and the hoopla around him reminds me too much of Tim Tear-bow, I mean Tim Tebow.

But if this guy has the chops on the playing field and he reignites the Cleveland Browns, I'll put both feet firmly on the Manziel bandwagon. My advice to him? Less Bieber-like antics and more George Clooney-like cool.

Training camp is just weeks away and the first pre-season Browns game is Aug. 9 against the Detroit Lions up in Detroit and it will air right here on WKYC Channel 3 starting at 7:30 p.m.

I'll be watching.
