Police probe Elyria High School basketball game fight

ELYRIA -- Police are continuing an investigation into a Dec. 14 incident at Elyria High School.

On Dec. 14, the Elyria High School girls basketball team was hosting the Strongsville Mustangs at the Elyria High School gymnasium.

Police say that, during the early part of this game, a Strongsville spectator had approached an Elyria police officer explaining that some of the female Elyria High School students were being disruptive.

Allegedly, one of the EHS students made an obscene gesture towards the Strongsville fan's children who were 6 and 8 years of age. The EHS students were upset over the fact that the six-year-old child had allegedly used a derogatory word towards the group of EHS students.

Police say this situation was dealt with and was believed to be settled at this time.

Upon completion of the game, this group of EHS students and a parent of one of the EHS students engaged one of the Strongsville spectators in a conversation.

More people began to gather around these people. One of the EHS students had to be restrained during this conversation. A Strongsville coach approached them and words were exchanged. The Strongsville coach allegedly pushed the EHS parent.

A fight began between the coach and the parent and several other people attempted to separate them.
