Mansfield neighborhood evacuated after bomb scare ends in fireworks

MANSFIELD - What was believed to be a military artillery shell found in a Rowland Avenue shed turned out to fireworks.

Neighbors within 300 feet of 41 Rowland Avenue were evacuated Thursday morning after the discovery, according to Mansfield police chief Ken Coontz.

The item in question turned out to be fireworks, according to Ashland  County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Carl Richert whose department's bomb squad was on scene and determined the device was just that.

Neighbors have returned home and Mansfield police have left the scene.
