MANSFIELD - After nearly 100 years of local ownership, MT Business Technologies has been sold to Global Imaging Systems, a Florida-based Xerox company.
MT Business CEO Carl Fernyak has offered his resignation, citing "overlapping responsibilities" with the company's president, Chuck Rounds.
"Obviously it was an extremely difficult decision for us, but we know that this sale will allow MT to better serve our customers' business needs long into the future," said Fernyak, who joined the family company in 1992 and has been CEO since 2006.
When news of the sale originally was reported by business technology trade publication The Cannata Report, the publication referred to MT Business as Ricoh's largest independent dealer.
With locations in Mansfield, Cleveland, Columbus and Toledo, MT Business provides technology solutions including printer and copiers to thousands of customers in Northern Ohio and South East Michigan, according to Fernyak.
Though Fernyak did not provide specifics, MT Business has a significant share of the business technology market in North Central Ohio.
"Since we have been in this area the longest, it has allowed us to enjoy a larger than typical market share," Fernyak said. "But you have to earn the business everyday."
The Mansfield Typewriter Company was founded in 1918 by D.L. and Tolman Burns. Carlton Fernyak, Carl's grandfather, started the Mansfield Office Supply Company in 1929.
