Steve Stephens, the man wanted for killing Robert Godwin Sr, 74, on Easter Sunday and uploading the video to Facebook, was found dead inside a car in Erie, Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania State Police have confirmed Stephens' identity.
As the story unfolded late Tuesday morning in Erie, Pa., WKYC's Will Ujek and WKYC's The Investigator Tom Meyer talked about Stephens' background and what may have led up to the events Easter Sunday.
Among possible factors, according to Meyer, Stephens was so financially strapped, he could not afford to repay a series of pay-day loans, according to his 2015 bankruptcy filing.
Stephens, who earned about $28,000 a year as a case worker at Pepper Pike-based Beech Brook, listed about $12,000 in assets against more than $35,000 in debts, the records show.
