Troopers: Man hurt in crash when driver falls asleep

SANDUSKY COUNTY -- Authorities say a "serious injury" crash happened late Monday evening when the driver of a tractor-trailer apparently fell asleep behind the wheel.

The accident took place on U.S. Route 23 North at the intersection with U.S. 6 around 11:43 p.m. in Scott Township.

According to the Fremont Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, the 55-year-old tractor-trailer driver from Zanesville crashed into the rear of a 1997 Ford Ranger that was sitting at a traffic light.

The Ranger then traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a sign.

The 19-year-old Bradner man who was inside the Ranger sustained incapacitating injuries. The driver inside the tractor-trailer was not hurt.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
