RAVENNA -- More than 120 animals including dogs, horses, exotic birds and chickens were seized from "deplorable conditions" last week, according to the Portage Animal Protective League.
The APL is asking for immediate help to offset the costs of the large rescue.
"We are asking for donations to care for the 18 dogs, 9 horses, 78 exotic birds and 23 chickens. Happy Trails Farm is caring for the horses and chickens until the case is concluded and The Bird Nerds are caring for the 78 birds. These cases can take months and the animals seized need a lot of care. All were in poor health and many were horrific to look at." says Chalan Lowry, executive director. "We cannot release any information about the case as it is confidential and we will not risk jeopardizing the outcome, but we can't wait for help to come."
Donations can be made through the following organizations:
- The Portage APL, (330) 296-4022 or http://portageapl.org/Donate_Online
- Happy Trails Farm, (330)296-5914 or http://happytrailsfarm.org/donations/
- The Bird Nerds Rescue, (330) 617-3557 or http://www.thebirdnersrescue.com/donating/
The rescue comes on the heels of another large seizure the previous week in which chickens, a dog, cats and rabbit were rescued.
"Portage APL is grateful beyond words for the assistance we received from these rescues! Please help us and help them care for the animals we rescued. It will be very expensive especially for the horses and birds as they were in the worst condition." says Lowry.
