Thousands sign petition to save Wildwater Kingdom

When news broke that Wildwater Kingdom is closing forever at the end of its 2016 season, we pulled this archive video from the WKYC vault.

AURORA - A petition is circulating in response to Cedar Fair Entertainment Company’s announcement to close Geauga Lake’s Wildwater Kingdom.

Beginning the petition with just her own signature, the petition’s creator Heather Schneider has now gained the support of many others who disagree with the park's closing.

By 8 a.m. Friday, the petition had gathered nearly 2,250 signatures.

Cedar Fair Entertainment Company made the announcement that the park would not reopen after the 2016 season in a press release in August.

Wildwater Kingdom closed its gates for good on Monday, Sept 5.

In the petition’s opening letter, Schneider states that the park provided many with memories, laughs and a getaway from daily life.

“I never thought the landscape as a child would be etched into my mind the way it is," the note read. "I love it here. This is my favorite place in the world. It has my heart.”

The petition has a goal of 2,500 signatures.

Pending reaching the goal, the petition will be delivered to Cedar Fair Entertainment Group, Bainbridge Township officials and Aurora's mayor.
