ALLIANCE -- A domestic violence suspect is dead by his own hand after firing at police.
The Stark County Sheriff's Office and Alliance Police responded to a domestic disturbance on Ridgehill Avenue around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday.
As they approached the residence, Douglas E. Litman, of Alliance, pointed a handgun at a deputy and attempted to shoot him.
When the officer returned fire, Litman retreated into the basement of the home.
Moments later, police heard a single gunshot from inside the home. When officers entered, they found Litman with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
He was taken to Alliance Community Hospital, where he later died.
The incident remains under investigation by the Stark County Sheriff's Office, the Stark County Coroner and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification.
