NORTH CANTON -- The North Canton Police Department is investigating several incidents of counterfeit $50 bills being used in the city.
Since July 12, five businesses have been victims of the scam, in which the bills are used to purchase small amounts of merchandise in order to get the balance in legal change, according to police.
North Canton police are working with the Secret Service in their investigation and have identified the following victims:
- Walgreens, 6421 Market Ave. N.
- Marc's, 1664 N. Main St.
- Discount Drug Mart, 1695 N. Main St.
- Lucky Star Restaurant, 1973 E. Maple St.
- Smoker's Outlet, 1664 N. Main St.
The first suspect is described as a while man in his late 30s or early 40s, with a medium build and tattoos on both arms. He has a tattoo of a flaming skull on his right forearm.
A second suspect is described as a white man wearing a ball cap, blue T-shirt, dark-colored shorts, white socks with sandals and accompanied by a 5- or 6-year-old child.
