The Stark County OVI Task Force – comprised of Alliance, Beach City, Brewster, Canal Fulton, Canton, East Canton, Jackson, Lake, Lawrence, Louisville, Magnolia, Marlboro, Massillon, Minerva, Navarre, North Canton, Perry, Stark County Parks District, Stark County Sherriff's Office, Waynesburg and the Ohio State Highway Patrol – is increasing its efforts to actively protect Stark County in the weeks leading up to Labor Day.
These increased efforts are part of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign, which runs from Aug. 15 to Sept. 1.
The Task Force will be conducting checkpoints to educate the public about the problem of impaired driving and to reduce the number of alcohol related crashes that occur in Stark County.
Tonight, the Task Force will be conducting two checkpoints in Stark County.
The first checkpoint will be at 1100 Block W. Main St. (SR153) eastbound in Louisville, Ohio. The second checkpoint will be at 1100 Block W. Main St (SR153) westbound in Louisville, Ohio.
The goal of these checkpoints is to provide the public with a safe means for traveling throughout Stark County," said Wil Hemker, the Task Force's project director.
The Stark County OVI Task Force is reminding drivers not to get behind the wheel of a car or operate a motorcycle if they've been drinking. It is best to plan a safe way home before you go out to an event, either by designating a sober driver or by using a taxi or public transportation.
If you have had something to drink, call a friend or relative to give you a ride. If you are driving and see an impaired driver, please contact local law enforcement immediately, dial #677, or call 1-800-GRAB-DUI or *DUI. You could save a life.
