COPLEY TOWNSHIP -- Copley Township Police Chief Michael Mier says eight people are now dead including an 11-year-old after a man went on a shooting spree Sunday just before 11 a.m.
One other person was rushed to an area hospital with injuries.
Chief Mier said a man shot and killed five people on Goodenough Avenue and two more on Schocalog before police shot and killed the gunman.
Police say they recieved multiple calls for a man running through the neighborhood. They later found out that several people in the area had been shot.
Police received additional calls stating that the suspect was on Schocalog Road, just north of Goodenough Avenue. That's where an officer and a former police officer found the suspect.
The suspect shot at the officer and the former officer before he was shot and killed.
There are four active crime scenes where police are investigating.
The shooting began over a family argument in the 2300 block of Goodenough Avenue.
The preliminary investigation shows that the gunman got into an argument with multiple people at the home. The shooter shot his girlfriend before running to a nearby home to confront his girlfiend's brother who was shot along with four others.
The shooter then chased two more who ran from the gunfire, shooting one of them at a home on Schocalog Road. A short time after, he was encountered by an officer and a former officer who fatally injured the suspect.
Police will hold a press conference Monday at noon to release more information from its investigation.

The identities of the victims are not being released so that the victims' family members are able to notify out-of-state relatives.
A vigil for the victims was held at 7:30 p.m Sunday at Copley Community Park.
Akron, Fairlawn, and the Summit County Sheriff's assisted Copley Township Police in responding to the shooting.
