AKRON -- There were more than 25,000 people in attendance tonight for the LeBron James I promise family reunion.
Tiffany Mead and Caleb Thomas get the award today for the first people in line. They waited since 11:30 Friday morning just to get as close to LeBron as possible.
They said they wanted to come early to support LeBron but not just because they are basketball fans.
"So the kids can see that he actually grew up here and he's coming back here and that he's not just a basketball player, he's a philanthropist and he gives back to where he's from," said Mead.
For six and half hours, the two of them and several other diehard supporters were killing their cellphone batteries wait for the gates to open.
For Dawn and Dawson Sparks, this is their first time in Cleveland. They drove seven hours from southern Indiana to be there Friday. For Dawn, it was all about making her kid smile.
"When they get to a certain age, there's not a lot you can do for them or excite them, she said. "The weather is beautiful, it's not hot and, of course, as a mommy, I always like to see them get excited even if he'll be 14 in two weeks."
