Man dies after vehicle strikes trees

NEW FRANKLIN -- A 60-year-old man is dead following a one-vehicle crash in Summit County.

The Canton Post of the Highway Patrol says the accident happened shortly before 10 p.m. Monday when a blue 2005 Chevrolet Impala was traveling south on Grove Road.

Authorities say the driver failed to negotiate a curve, causing the Impala to go off the roadway before striking several trees.

The driver, identified as Timothy L. Dougherty, of Clinton, died in the accident.

Authorities say Dougherty was not wearing a seat belt.

Alcohol is not suspected in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

To date, 12 people have died in crashes this year in Summit County.
