CUYAHOGA FALLS - Five people were taken to the hospital -- including one firefighter -- after a fire broke out just before midnight Thursday at the Studio City Apartment complex in Cuyahoga Falls on Winter Parkway.

Cuyahoga Falls fire Captain Kee said the fire started on the first floor, and there is extensive smoke and heat damage.

The injured firefighter was treated and released.

Kee also said that some residents signed paperwork, refusing treatment.

WKYC called surrounding area fire departments and confirmed that Tallmadge, Richfield Village, Munroe Falls, Akron, Fairlawn and Stow were all assisting on scene at some point during the incident.

The Red Cross is assisting with a total of 27 occupants who were displaced from the fire.

None of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.

It is not clear how the fire started exactly, but Cuyahoga Falls police confirmed to WKYC at 1:30 a.m. that the fire was out.

The incident remains under investigation.
