NEW FRANKLIN -- The New Franklin Fire Department responded Thursday morning to a house fire in the 1400 block of Vanderhoof Road.
The first units arrived about 9:45 a.m. and found the fire was contained to a second-floor bedroom and the attic.
The home sustained heavy water and smoke damage throughout the structure.
A firefighter from Green was evaluated at the scene for possible heat exhaustion.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation.
Damage to the home and its contents is estimated to be $150,000. The owners do not have insurance.
The home had no working smoke detectors. The New Franklin Fire Department reminds residents it will be giving away free smoke detectors 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the main fire station at 5605 Manchester Road.
The New Franklin Fire Department was assisted by firefighters from Clinton, Coventry Township, Green and Chippewa Township.
