SWAT says Parma standoff ends peacefully, lockdowns lifted

PARMA, OHIO - Parma Police and SWAT were at a home in the 6500 block of Broadview Road with a standoff that ended peacefully just after noon Friday.

Police believed the man was armed inside the home.

SWAT officers and Crisis Negotiators were able to have the man surrender peacefully.

Police tell WKYC that two men were in a car that hit a utility pole and crashed next to to a church-owned house.

One man was injured and the other man ran into the house, according to police. That man told the woman in the house that he was armed and he allowed her to leave.

Police say witnesses reported to police that, after the crash, the driver went into the house and the information developed from there that the man who went inside the house was armed with a gun.

The entire incident went on for about three hours.

Police say all schools and daycares in the area had been placed on lockdown.

The Parma City School District public information officer said "We have four of our schools on a precautionary lockdown at this time - Normandy High School, Shiloh Middle School, Hillside Middle School and Green Valley Elementary School."

Now that the situation has been resolved, the lockdowns were lifted.
