Twinsburg man gets two life sentences for raping girl, 12

AKRON - Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh confirmed that Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Christine Croce sentenced Patrick Renaud, 49, of Twinsburg, to two life sentences for the rape of a 12-year-old girl.

Walsh says Renaud will be eligible for parole after 45 years. Croce also designated Renaud a Tier III sex offender, meaning if he is ever released from prison, Renaud would have to register with the local sheriff every 90 days for the rest of his life.

On October 3, 2016, according to a news release, a Summit County jury found Renaud guilty of the following charges:
• Two Counts of rape
• Two Counts of sexual battery
• Five Counts of gross sexual imposition

During the time period from March 2013 to early December 2013, Renaud molested the 12-year-old victim, according to the news release.

Twinsburg Police opened the investigation when the victim's mother came forward after receiving allegations via text messaging from her daughter. During the trial, Avery II, the Summit County Prosecutor's Office facility dog, sat with the victim in between court appearances.

"Patrick Renaud is a predator who targeted this family. He groomed the victim and then sexually assaulted her," said Prosecutor Walsh said in the news release.

"This has taken a tremendous toll on the victim and her family. Renaud inflicted pain which may never go away. My hope is the victim and her family now have a sense of security knowing Renaud will remain in prison for the rest of his life."
