BRECKSVILLE -- Two men have been indicted for a $60,000 scheme involving the sale of counterfeit baseball cards on eBay.
Steven Norris, 38, of Brecksville and his brother, Scott Norris, 40, of Milton, PA are named in a nine-count indictment, including charges of mail fraud and wire fraud.
The baseball cards involved include Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle cards.
"The charges allege that the defendants made tens of thousands of dollars in fraud proceeds using the great legends of baseball as trade bait," Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio said. "Now it is the defendants who are hooked."
The cards, if genuine, would have been rare and valuable, including 1952 Mickey Mantel and 1933 Babe Ruth cards, according to the indictment.
The Norris' accepted payments from bidders but didn't deliver the cards. Individuals suffered losses totaling approximately $60,310.
If convicted, the defendants' sentences will be determined by the court.
