UPDATE: Pedestrian struck in Akron has died

AKRON -- The pedestrian who was struck by a car on Wednesday, and remained unidentified for days, has died in the hospital.

Jason Allison, 37, of Akron, passed away late Saturday afternoon with his father by his side, according to Akron police.

Akron Police had asked for the public's help after no one came forward to identify him.

Allison was walking southbound across Triplett Boulevard near the intersection of Lansing Street and was struck by a silver 2002 Chevy Malibu that was traveling eastbound on Triplett Boulevard at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday morning, police said.

The driver of the Malibu is cooperating with Akron Police.

Allison was taken to Akron City Hospital with severe head trauma and remained in critical condition in a coma, until succumbing to his injuries late Saturday afternoon.
