CLEVELAND - This week, Starbucks released its new Unicorn Frappuccino Blended Crème drink.
It will only be available for a limited time, but there is no shortage of people complaining how unhealthy it is.
But is that really the case?
It seems Starbucks looked to Charlie, the most famous unicorn in pop culture, for inspiration on its latest Frappuccino.
This thing's got a mountain of sugar--59 grams!
"Yeah, that's a lot of sugar," said a customer who has just bought one.
So how does the sugar in a Grande Unicorn Frappuccino stack up to other sweet treats?
According to the nutrition label for Krispy Kreme, each donut has 10 grams of sugar, so you can eat nearly half a dozen of them.
"You don't want to know what's in there?" Danielle asked a WKYC taste tester.
“I feel like I'd have to walk a little more if I found out," said David.
Well we verified that's more than double what the American Heart Association says you should have a day, which is only 25 grams.
But to put that into perspective, a cup of healthy dried apricots has 10 grams more sugar than that Frappuccino, although you probably won't get that fun sugar high.
"It will so help me focus, I guarantee you," said taste tester Betsy Kling.
Now, what about what Starbucks describes as that "color changing spectacle of purple and pink that's topped off with whip cream-sprinkled pink and blue fairy powders?"
"I feel like I just had a big bowl of cereal. Kids sugary cereal," said taste tester Julie.
I emailed Starbucks to ask them whether these colors were chemicals.
They said they were very busy fielding all the media requests.
So we looked up the ingredients on the company's website.
And despite fillers and additives like Maltodextrin, Potassium Sorbate and Citric Acid, we can confirm the stuff's all safe, and occurs naturally in many foods.
Now whether you still want to drink it, considering it has 410 calories a pop, is a whole other debate.
"Oh my God, I wouldn't have had the whole thing!" said taste tester Meg.
Meantime, the drink has been so popular, it sold out at Starbucks’ Playhouse Square location in Downtown Cleveland in less than two days.
