Reports: Cop killer found dead in Pennsylvania

One police officer was fatally shot and another wounded while responding to a domestic disturbance call Thursday in the western Pennsylvania town on Canonsburg, authorities said.

The suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, multiple media outlets were reporting.

A SWAT team and dozens of officers swarmed the home in Canonsburg after the shooting at about 3:30 a.m. local time, State Police Trooper Melinda Bondarenka said.

Before the shooter's death was confirmed, some homes were evacuated and schools in the area were closed.

"Please stay in your homes if you are not being evacuated," Bondarenka said.

Bondarenka told reporters that a protection-from-abuse order had been in effect at the home. Officers were immediately met with gunfire when they arrived at the scene, Bondarenka said.

Washington County Coroner Tim Warco identified the dead police officer as Scott Leslie Bashioum.

"The other officer has been flown to a Pittsburgh hospital," Warco said. "Obviously it's all very sketchy at this point. It's still an active scene."

Canonsburg, a borough of less than 10,000 people about 20 miles southwest of Pittsburgh, has a police force of about 15 officers, according to the town's website.
