PITTSBURGH -- Pennsylvania's Judicial Conduct Board is filing disciplinary charges against state Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin.

The board action Friday came on the heels of criminal charges that allege Orie Melvin of illegally using her taxpayer-funded staff on her two campaigns for a seat on the state's high court.

The board asked that Orie Melvin be suspended with pay until the Court of Judicial Discipline resolves the board's allegations that her actions violated the state constitution and the Code of Judicial Conduct.

If the charges are proved, the Court of Judicial Discipline will hold a sanctions hearing to determine what penalties should be imposed.
