Facing a close election, President Barack Obama and Democrats will try to emphasize what they have achieved as they kick off their three-day national convention Tuesday in North Carolina.

The convention officially begins in Charlotte and tonight and Democrats will put forth what may be their most popular asset -- the First Lady.

San Antonio Mayor, Julian Castro will also take center stage tonight. It'll be the first time a Latino delivers the keynote address, an effort to reach out to the key demographic President Obama will need in his reelection.

The most important goal for the party is to outline the next four years ahead, and the President will make the case Americans are better off now than four years ago.
