WADSWORTH -- Authorities in Medina County filed criminal charges today in connection with five dead horses discovered Friday in a field southwest of Akron.
Police say nearby were another five very underfed horses. The bodies of up to ten dead dogs were found both inside and outside a vacant house.
Investigators filed 13 counts of animal cruelty against 52-year-old Pat Wood. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $750 fine.
A detective says Wood told him she moved from the property into a trailer two years ago and was doing the best she could to care for the animals.
She doesn?t have a phone listing in the area and couldn?t be reached.
