PAINESVILLE -- The number of companies and businesses recalling peanut products continues to grow.
Add to that Lake Erie College in Painesville. The college announced Monday it is erring on the side of caution by not serving any peanut-related products.
Vice President of Purchasing Craig Phillips for Metz & Associates -- the college's food service provider -- says the approach the government has been using since 2008 is basically to assume virtually every product in a category is affected until proven not to be, which can cause confusion.
Presently, only products manufactured with ingredients from Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) are potentially dangerous.
According to a press release, Metz works with many manufacturers that have no dealings with PCA and have sent documentation that their products are completely safe.
Despite the documentation, Metz will not release these products until they receive confirmation from the FDA.
