PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD -- Cavs guard Delonte West was indicted Tuesday on several weapons charges according to Glenn Ivey, the State's Attorney for Prince George's County, Maryland.
According to Ivey, West was indicted on six weapons related charges connected to a traffic stop on September 17. West was also indicted on a count of reckless driving and a count of negligent driving. He was initially charged with just two counts of carrying a handgun and speeding
Police say, West was travelling on I-95 when he cut off a Prince George's police officer.
The officer pulled him over and found West carrying three guns including a Beretta 9 mm handgun, a Ruger .357 handgun and a loaded shotgun with 120 rounds of ammunition.
According to police, the .357 was strapped to West's leg. The shotgun was in a guitar case which was slung over his back.
Ivey says West could face up to 3 years maximum on each weapons count if convicted.
West did play for the Cavs Tuesday night against the Wizards.
Cleveland Cavaliers General Manager, Danny Ferry issued the following statement:
"It is our understanding that today's developments are part of the legal process that continues to take place with Delonte and he and his legal council will handle that. We will continue to take this matter very seriously and monitor and respect the legal process as it proceeds, but not speculate or comment about it."
