LORAIN -- "The city will close its entire recreation department," Mayor Tony Krasienko told Channel 3 News late Friday.

"We will also close one fire station and implement layoffs in city departments, as well as cut police dispatchers and corrections officers," Krasienko said.

The cuts are in response to a half-million-dollar city budget shortfall this year, on top of a $1.3 million dollar deficit from 2008.

Meanwhile, in Elyria, Lorain County officials are considering what new round of cuts to make after voters on Tuesday repealed a half-percent increase in the county sales tax.

Lorain County Commissioners are considering further cuts at the county's regional transit system and at the Lorain County Regional Airport, which one commissioner said is "a luxury we can no longer afford."
