UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- John Carroll University is trying a new experiment, known as the "Living Simply Community."
"This is the first time we have had a living simply community on campus, and it started this year," says Director of Campus Ministry John Scarano.
The students were interviewed and eight were chosen to live in two university-owned duplexes.
They make meals together, pool their money and try to conserve water and electricity. They also use organic foods and fair trade items.
"I think there is a perception of college students with iPods, playing video games or drinking," says senior Theresa Prabucki.
Some of the students spent time in El Salvador and wanted to try the same communal living here.
The university expects to continue the program next year.
