SYDNEY, Australia -- Sydney woke up Friday morning to a temperature above 86 degrees, with the mercury climbing to 107 later in the day.
Temperatures rose up to 113 degrees in rural areas in New South Wales, where some towns experienced their hottest November day in 47 years.
Australia is in the southern hemisphere where it's spring right now.
Thunder and lightning storms hit Sydney, not only setting fire to a house, but knocking out power supplies to some nine-thousand homes and businesses in the city and areas to its north.
Temperatures are expected to remain high over the weekend, keeping the fire alert level high in many parts of Australia.
