Cleveland: Man who put daughter in clothes dryer sentenced to 8 years in prison

CLEVELAND -- Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Joan Synenberg sentenced Steven McClairn to eight years in prison Thursday for putting his 7-year-old daughter in a clothes dryer and turning it on to punish her.

The daughter lives with her mother and was visiting McClairn on Dec. 13 at his home in Cleveland.

Court records show that he picked his daughter up, forced her into a clothes dryer, and then turned it on to punish the girl for something she said to him.

The incident was reported to Department of Children and Family Services, who then contacted Cleveland Police.

On March 3, McClairn, 36, pleaded guilty to child endangering, domestic violence, and abduction.

He had faced a maximum of 11 and a half years in prison.
