ALTON, Illinois -- Charges were expected to be filed Friday against a metro east postal worker who was allegedly delivering more than mail.
Residents of an Alton neighborhood had complained to police that the 42-year-old mail carrier could be involved in illegal activity. Police discovered the suspicions of the residents were correct.
Along with letters, bills, and junk mail, the East St. Louis resident was delivering marijuana, say police.
Chris Sullivan, Alton?s police chief, said, "During the course of the investigation our officers were able to make undercover purchases of cannibas from the postman on his route, in his uniform, in his postal truck.? Chief Sullivan stresses no other member of the postal service working in Alton was involved. He adds a search of the mailman's East St. Louis home turned up other items believed to be used in the drug trade.
