She left the joy of the classroom behind only to struggle for her own life inside her own home. A battle she lost. Police say the attacker was her husband.
The Brush High School yearbook has a picture of Marissa Gorospe and her husband, Joseph, in happier times. The couple lived on a quiet street in Hudson with their two young daughters.
Monday night, police dispatch got a call from Joseph Gorospe.
911: Ok what's the problem, sir? 911: Is it for you? Husband: "No, it's my wife. She's dead." 911: Ok, how old is she? Husband: 31 911: Is she breathing at all? Husband: "No." 911: "Has she been sick lately or anything?" Husband: "No." 911: "OK, just stay on the line with me, OK?"
He didn't stay on the line, but 32-year-old Joe Gorospe was waiting for police when they arrived.
Police say the murder scene was brutal. Blood was everywhere in the downstairs living room and kitchen. Detectives seized a bloody baseball bat and kitchen knives that were used as murder weapons.
Police say that while the murder was taking place on the first floor, the couple's two young daughters were upstairs. Neighbor, John Conkling, said his family was horrified by the news.
"Oh, your first thoughts are like how could something like that happen in a town like Hudson," Conkling said.
One of Marissa's students was near tears.
Tianna Farmer told Channel 3's Mike O'Mara that: "it was like losing a mom, like losing my own mother. Because this is my first year here and she was just ? it was horrible.?
Staff members said that Marissa was a rising star at Brush High School.
She had taught History at Brush ever since interning at the school after getting her degree at John Caroll University. In six years, she made a huge impact on all her students.
"She was always so nice in school, always so full of life and joy,? Former student, Varena Harris said.
Superintendent William Zelei said everyone is still in shock.
"She was one of those people who students and staff bonded with and truly loved,? Zelei said.
Now a young mother is dead, her husband behind bars charged with aggravated murder, and two small children will grow up without their parents.
