VERMILION ? Police are investigating the death of a 17-year-old boy who officers say died trying to ?beat? a train to the crossing.
Police say the teen was with three other friends Monday night walking southbound on Washington Street.
Police say when the group heard the whistle of the approaching train, two of the teens began running toward the tracks to try and cross before the train.
The other two teens yelled for the others to stop.
One of the teens tripped and never made it to the tracks.
His friend did make it to the tracks where he was hit by the on-coming train and killed.
