
CLEVELAND -- A big majority of Cuyahoga County mayors is lining up behing the proposed Medical Mart and Convention Center.Your say: What's your opinion on the Medical Mart?
Forty mayors, Democrats and Republicans from all sides of town are making it a regional rallying cry. They believe the project would be a much-needed job-creating economic lift.
Pepper Pike Mayor Bruce Akers calls it a "no brainer. This is something bigger than a sports stadium. It will have a long lasting impact and ripple effect that is phenomenal."
They argue that creating a showcase for health care products plays to the region's best hope for future growth-medical research and hospitals.
"We've got to something great that will bring us back to a powerhouse. This is a perfect match," says Orange Mayor Kathy Mulcahy.
"When opportunity knocks, you open the door," said Mayfield Mayor Bruce Rinker.
Parma Heights Mayor Martin Zanotti said, "It's an opportunity to rebuild our economy. It's an opportunity to create an institution we can reshape and build Greater Cleveland's economy with."
Only three mayors rejected the majority position. And they are not against the project.
Westlake Mayor Dennis Clough says the sales tax passed by commissioners to pay for a convention center should be voted on by the people.
