Gas prices have reached the point where commuters are changing their driving habits.

Executive director of Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency Howard Maier said the number of participants in the RideShare program has quadrupled in the last 15 months.

Maier attributes that to high gas prices and more green-conscious commuters. Maier said that, with gas prices in Ohio at an all-time high, motorists are now punished enough to change their driving habits.

There are more than 600 participants in the RideShare program in the five counties in and around Cleveland, including Cuyahoga, Medina, Lake, Geauga and Lorain counties.

The program helps commuters that drive similiar patterns to and from work to set up a carpool.

Maier says it's a good way to beat prices at the pump, cut down on auto emissions and lessen wear and tear on your car.
