CLEVELAND -- The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections Monday morning authorized the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's office and County Prosecutor Bill Mason to conduct a probe into multiple fraudulent registrations of voters registered by the community organizations group called ACORN.

Two of four voters the BOE subpoenaed showed up for Monday's hearing.

Christopher Barkley and Freddie Johnson both testified that they had been registered to vote multiple times, claiming they were badgered by Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now workers who claimed they had to fill quotas.

Barkley also testified that some of the 13 registration cards submitted in his name were not filled out by him.

Johnson testified that ACORN workers gave him cigarettes or money for repeat registrations.

Katy Gall, who is the head of Ohio's ACORN group, said that the organization has been cooperating with the investigation. She says ACORN has hired 13,000 canvassers to collect signatures. Gall says those found to be submitting multiple registrations have been fired.

Gall told reporters that, despite the coverage the issue is receiving, she believes it will have no impact on the outcome of the election. Gall says that no fraudulent ballots have been detected as part of the probe.
