BRATENAHL -- Starting Friday evening, you'll have the chance to peek inside one of Bratenahl's famous old mansions, and to buy its beautiful furnishings.
The estate at 9448 Lake Shore Boulevard is being sold by the man who's owned it the last five years, Chester Scott. He will hold an estate sale Friday through Sunday at the mansion, which is also for sale.
"The house was built in 1922 as a wedding present," said Scott, who tells WKYC the furnishings for sale range from antiques to more contemporary items. "But they all reflect the Tudor-Cotswold feel of the house," he explained.
The wedding gift was to Herman Vail and Delia White, who eventually became the parents of former Plain Dealer publisher Tom Vail, who grew up in the house.
Scott says he is reluctant to part with some of the furnishings which he carefully collected. "I have a music box here that I'm going to have a little trouble parting with," he told WKYC, "a couple of the lamps I love, and my Rookwood vases, I kind of like those."
Scott says he has fairly priced the mansion's furnishings and will hold the estate sale Friday evening until 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the house at 9448 Lake Shore Boulevard.
