So many people make the resolution to lose weight in the new year, but the Better Business Bureau is warning consumers to watch out for certain "so called" weight loss services and products.

The BBB says they can cause you to lose not weight but money...

The Better Business Bureau of Greater Cleveland has issued alert warning consumers to watch for several types of services and companies that are making empty promises and have unscrupulous business practices. Nationwide dozens of states have received complaints.

The BBB says you should watch out for "Fraudulent Clinical Trials". There have been complaints in several states against a company called Metacor, also known as Progenics... The company advertises on the internet - and asks customers to pay up front to enroll in their clinical trials. The BBB says don't buy it.

Also beware of some so called "Weight-Loss Teas" specifically from a company called Wu-Yi Source. The company offers a full money back guarantee but people in more than a dozen states says they can't get their money back.

The BBB also says be leery of companies offering "Hypnosis." In Dallas and Northeast Texas there have been numerous complaints against Changes International Inc. The company promises "Quit Smoking & Lose Weight" in one brief "Hypnosis Session." The BBB says complainants report paying more than $250 for the hypnosis seminar and set of CD's and allege the hypnosis is ineffective and the company doesn't honor it's refund policy.

Finally, there's a warning about "Fat-Dissolving Injections." Hundreds of complaints have been filed with the BBB about a company called Go Fig, Inc - doing business as fig, and Advanced Lipo Dissolve Center.

This procedure, according to the BBB, has not been approved by the FDA and complainants allege the injections were ineffective and caused extensive swelling and pain.
